Concerning Events in DC

The events of last week in Washington D.C. have left many of us without words to express our thoughts and feelings. Many of us are heartbroken, many of us are angry and many of us are asking a lot of questions. We the Council of the OEF are writing this statement to express our prayers and desire to stand in solidarity with faith groups across the U.S. Last week, Bishop Michael Curry said, “in a moment of crisis the question to ask is not who shall I be but who shall we be.” This is a question we can all ask ourselves as we go further.

We also recommend reading the statement by the UCC (United Church of Christ). at www.ucc.org. We affirm this statement. Not only do we affirm the UCC position on past acts, but also recognize that in the coming days that further acts of violence, harm and hatred are pending. We are called to be peacemakers now and in the future. We are called to love all people. We are called to pray at all times. We affirm our sisters and brothers everywhere who walk this road of justice seeking, acts of mercy and grace giving.

We know that some of you are living and working in difficult areas here in the U.S. Please remember we are all in this together. Be the light of Christ wherever you are. May the peace of Christ be with you. May Sister Clare and Brother Francis be our guides in these times of crisis. Be safe and be aware in whatever you do and wherever you are. We will all pray for one another.

Peace and all good,

The Council of OEF
